Issued by the ETH Board, these guidelines stipulate how members of the executive boards of ETH Zurich, EPFL and the four research institutes should proceed when concluding secondary employment contracts with third parties.

The ETH Board welcomes executive staff of the institutions becoming actively involved for the benefit of the economy and of society. This is an important type of knowledge transfer; for its part, the ETH Domain also profits from experience acquired in this way. The people concerned regularly notify the ETH Board of their commitments, and the latter examines whether these commitments make too high a demand on time or whether conflicts of interest may arise. In such cases, the Executive Pay Ordinance issued by the Federal Council stipulates that the competent Federal Department has to decide whether the exercise of a secondary occupation requires the Federal Council’s approval.
