Prof. Dr Joël Mesot

Born 1964, Swiss citizen, Prof. Dr sc. nat.

Member of the ETH Board and of the Executive Committee since 2010.

President of ETH Zurich since 2019.

Joël Mesot studied physics at ETH Zurich, obtaining a doctorate in solid-state physics in 1992. In 2002, he was awarded the ETH Zurich Latsis Prize and in 1995 the SPS (Swiss Physical Society) IBM Prize. After residing in France (Institut Laue-Langevin, Grenoble) and the USA (Argonne National Laboratory, Chicago), he came to ETH Zurich and joined PSI, where he became Head of the Laboratory for Neutron Scattering in 2004 and was Director from 2007 to 2018. Joël Mesot is a member of the Senate of the Helm­holtz Association of German Research Centres and member of various non-European expert committees. He is also Second Vice-President of the Marcel Benoist Foundation, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Swiss Science Center Technorama Winterthur, the Technopark Aargau Foundation and of the Swiss Innovation Park, as well as a member of the Board of Directors of PARK INNOVAARE.
